🤖 Is Scottie Human?

There’s honestly not a ton of evidence that he is.

Scottie Scheffler gained 15.01 (!!) strokes from tee-to-green last week. Which, as Kyle Porter pointed out, was 3.56 strokes more than Emiliano Grillo gained in total (11.45) and he would go on to win the event.

There are three instances of a golfer gaining 15+ strokes from tee-to-green this season. All of them are Scottie.

He owns five of the best eleven tee-to-green weeks this season, with no other golfer appearing multiple times.

Gaining 14+ strokes from tee-to-green is almost a guaranteed victory. It’s a feat that has been accomplished 41x since the start of the 2019 season. Here’s the finishing position breakdown of those 41:

🩸🛀 Big Boy Bloodbath

The chalk has been pretty good this year but maybe there was a Major Championship Hangover in Texas last week. There was 11 golfers priced over $9,000 on DraftKings last week and five of them would go on to miss the cut.

Finau snapped a 14 event cut streak which was the longest active streak of the golfers above.

❓ Trivia!

Jon Rahm famously had to withdraw after three rounds of this event in 2021, after testing positive for COVID. He had amassed a six shot lead and had gained a staggering 21.02 strokes to the field in three rounds.

Since the start of the 2020 season, there are four other instances in which a golfer gained 20+ strokes for the week — all resulting in wins.

🔦 The Brightest of Lights

This will be the tenth stroke play event that is either 1) a major or 2) an elevated event. Here’s the top players in the field in such instances.

Scottie has two wins.
Rahm has three wins.
Cantlay is the only other golfer gaining 2+ strokes per round.
