Sentry TOC Review & Sony Open First Look | Stats, Trends & More!
Good morning! Welcome to the first “Monday Edition” of the RunGood RunDown. This is meant to review the tournament from last week and provide a first look for the event coming up this week.
Don’t worry, there will still be a Wednesday Edition, but I hope you enjoy! There’s also a sizable announcement a bit further down.

🔃 Last Week’s Optimal Lineup
👊 Weekend Warriors
Jon Rahm went nuclear on the weekend in Maui, including a Sunday 63 en route to an incredible come from behind victory. Despite these heroics, he didn’t have the best weekend.
It was actually Max Homa who went 63-66, gaining 8.6 strokes to the field over those two days — 1.28 strokes better than Rahm. Of golfers playing the Sony Open, here were the best weekend performances:
Tom Hoge +5.60
Billy Horschel +4.60
KH Lee +3.60
Sungjae Im +2.60
Mackenzie Hughes +1.60
🔃 Somebody Learned How To Putt
Rahm gained 5.86 strokes putting last week in Maui, his sixth straight event gaining strokes with the flatstick. His global SG PUTT over the last 32 rounds is the 2nd best in the world.
He’s gained 1.41 strokes putting per round during the stretch, second to only George Coetzee. That’s eight starts where he’s won three times and has lost to a total of 32 golfers in the process. The hottest putters who are playing the Sony Open:
🚨 Sizable Announcement Time
We’ve started 2023 and I’ve never been more energetic. I want to keep doing more things that I’m passionate about and there’s no better time than now.
Many of you know, I own RunGoodProps.com which is a Props Dashboard that compares the lines at six different prop sites to the lines at six different sportsbooks and helps you find the best plays via math — not opinion. Super simple, super powerful.
Starting this week, I’ve launched a RunGoodProps YouTube Channel which will start with twice-weekly live shows where I use the Props Dashboard to quickly find edges in the market across all sports. These shows will be data-driven and short (~10 minutes).
The first two shows will be Wednesday and Saturday at 11am ET.
If this is interesting to you, please subscribe to the YouTube Channel.
🔨 Knocking Off The Rust
There are 19 golfers who played the Sentry Tournament of Champions who will tee it up this week at the Sony Open. Of those 19, only 8 gained strokes to the field last week.
Tom Hoge, Tom Kim, JJ Spaun, KH Lee, Jordan Spieth, Sungjae Im, Brian Harman and Corey Conners. Despite gaining strokes to the field, Conners actually lost fantasy points to the field. He only made 22 birdies and didn’t notch any eagles.
👹 Unleash The Young Guns
This is the first full field event of the year so we get to see the exciting stars (?) to be playing for the first time. There are three who stand out thanks to really strong fall schedules.
Taylor Montgomery played seven times in the fall and his average fantasy point finish was the 87th percentile — the best of anyone in this field in the 2023 season.
Greyson Sigg played six times, gained fantasy points to the field in all of them and his average fantasy point finish was the 82nd percentile — second best in the field.
Ben Griffin struggled at the Fortinet Championship but gained fantasy points to the field in each of his final six starts of the fall. His average fantasy point finish was the 71st percentile.
Those are small samples, but to put them into perspective — Scottie Scheffler had an average fantasy position in the 80th percentile last season.
🐐 Tom Kim Mania
Prepare yourselves for Tom Kim Week. He will be the most talked about golfer at the Sony Open and will likely be one of the highest rostered golfers on the slate. Is it warranted? That’s for you to decide but he are some numbers.
Over the last 36 rounds, Kim has gained 57.24 strokes to the field — the best mark of anyone playing this week. It’s 16.37 strokes better than the second-best golfer, Sungjae Im. That gap from Kim (1) to Im (2) is the same gap as Im (2) and Hayden Buckley (17).
🤩 Get Your Fantasy Fix
On Saturday, we held a season long fantasy golf draft in Las Vegas. We recorded the whole thing in a multi-million dollar studio and even had a few players make an appearance.
You can watch the whole draft here or you can listen to the audio!
